Cabling and Programming for Photovoltaic Systems

There are numerous variants of the photovoltaic system and each requires their own way of being wired. Each of these systems that are compatible can also be programmed in Loxone Config.

Input: Modbus counter

General PV system

PV system via counter (no communications with inverter)

A Loxone Modbus counter is used as a counter and PV system as a PV system.

Programming

Energy monitoring is not possible with this variant. Since the counter does not recognise how much of the produced energy is immediately consumed again. Thus this variant is not recommended. With this variant only a consumption count is possible.

PV system via a meter (with communication to the inverter)

A Loxone Modbus counter is used as a counter and a PV system as a PV system

Programming

The Energy monitor must be set to “Block inputs” in the properties tab. In this example, we use the RS485 to communicate with the inverter.

PV system according to meter and battery storage (with communication to the inverter).

A Loxone Modbus counter is used as a counter, a PV system as a PV system and a battery to store electricity.

Programming

the energy monitor must be set to “block inputs” in the properties tab. In the example, we communicate with the inverter and the battery store via the RS485 interface. This is a normal application.

PV system before counter

A Loxone Modbus counter is used as a counter and a PV system as a PV system.

Programming

In this case, communication with the inverter must be established so that data can be read from the inverter. If this is not possible then convert the Modbus counter so that it sits in front of the PV system. In this example, we communicate with the inverter via the RS485 interface.

This application is not recommended as there may be inconsistencies in the different polling cycles. The counter readings of the various counters must be adapted via some extra logic. The polling cycle of the Modbus counter must be selected equal to the polling cycle of the data from the inverter

Fronius / Kostal PV system

PV system according to meter

A Loxone Modbus counter is used as counter and a Fronius PV system as a PV system.

Programming

The energy meter must be set to “Fronius” or “Kostal” in the settings and the correct IP address and device number must be entered. This is a normal application of this.

Fronius PV system by counter with Fronius battery storage

A Loxone Modbus counter is used as a counter and a Fronius PV system with battery storage as a PV system.

Programming

The energy monitor must be set to “Fronius” in the settings and the correct IP address and device number must be entered. The Fronius battery memory communicates directly with the Fronius inverter.

PV system before counter

The energy monitor must be set to “Fronius” or “Kostal” in the settings and the correct IP address and the device number must be entered.

This application is not recommended as there may be inconsistencies in the different polling cycles. The counter readings of the various counters must be adapted via some extra logic. The polling cycle of the Modbus counter should be set to 60 seconds since the data from the inverter is also updated every 60 seconds.
